Advanced Studies in Harmonic Analysis and PDE: Research Perspectives from East Asia

Specialist PhD Course

27–30 October 2026
Ghent University, Campus Sterre, Building S8
The exact venue will be communicated later.

About the course

Advanced Studies in Harmonic Analysis and PDE: Research Perspectives from East Asia is a four-day doctoral specialist course that brings together leading experts from East Asian and Flemish universities. The programme combines structured mini-courses with a panel discussion on current research directions and a poster session offering feedback and networking opportunities.

The course provides advanced training in harmonic analysis and partial differential equations, while fostering international scientific exchange and collaboration. It is organised by the Ghent Analysis & PDE Center with support from the Doctoral School.

Lecturers

The planned lecturers are:

  • Mitsuru Sugimoto (Nagoya University)
  • Zhongkai Tao (Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques)

Preliminary programme

The preliminary programme will be available here shortly.

Who should attend?

The course is open to everyone. PhD students are particularly encouraged to participate.

Learning outcomes

Participants will gain advanced insight into selected current topics in harmonic analysis and partial differential equations, including contemporary methods and open research directions. They will strengthen their ability to connect techniques across related areas of mathematical analysis and to identify recent developments in a broad international context within their research field.

The panel discussion will offer wider perspectives on research trends across Europe and East Asia, highlighting both differences that create learning opportunities and shared areas of expertise that may provide entry points for future collaboration. The poster session will give participating PhD students an opportunity to develop their skills in presenting research, discussing mathematical ideas, and receiving constructive feedback from peers and senior experts from East Asia and Flanders.

Registration

Participation is free of charge. Registration details will be announced shortly.
