In 2025, our Ghent Analysis & PDE Center celebrated academic achievements, secured new research support, and brought together mathematicians through lectures, workshops, and international partnerships. Here we present the highlights reported on our website during the year.

Prizes, Awards, Grants, and Academic Appointments

• FWO Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship to Dr. Marianna Chatzakou, supporting the development of her independent research career and international research activities. Read more.
• Order of Kurmet to Dr. Durvudkhan Suragan, awarded by the President of Kazakhstan. This state honour recognises contributions to science, education, culture, and other areas of public life. Read more.
• Global Minds Fund International Grant of €10,000 for the Belgium–Brazil project Global Minds in PDE and Control Theory. The project is led by Prof. Michael Ruzhansky, with Dr. Duván Cardona and Dr. Marianna Chatzakou as co-promotors, and involves Brazilian partners and ICMAM Latin America. It supports research cooperation and educational opportunities in partial differential equations and control theory. Read more.
• Assistant Professor appointment for Dr. Vishvesh Kumar at IIT BHU Varanasi. During his postdoctoral work in Ghent, Vishvesh contributed to harmonic analysis, pseudo-differential operators, geometric analysis, and PDEs on Lie groups. We congratulate him on this next stage of his academic career. Read more.

Successful PhD Defence

• Junqing Huang successfully defended his dissertation, “Variational Modeling and (Semi)-sparsity Generalizations for Image Analysis and Processing: Theory, Optimization and Applications.” Alongside his research, Junqing contributed creatively to the visual identity of our group, including its logos and members’ photographs. Read more.

Conferences, Workshops, and Scientific Lectures

• Ghent Methusalem Seminar by Miquel Saucedo, 3 April 2025. Miquel Saucedo, from CRM and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, discussed classical Fourier inequalities and their relationship to general operator bounds, presenting joint work with Sergey Tikhonov. Read more.
• Ghent Methusalem mini-course by Prof. S. Thangavelu, 3–4 April 2025. Prof. Thangavelu, from IISc Bangalore, introduced modulation spaces on the Heisenberg group, explaining their connections with Bargmann transforms and twisted modulation spaces. Read more.
• Microlocal Day #12, 8 April 2025. The programme featured Sergo Yepiskoposyan on orthonormal systems and greedy algorithms, Bolys Sabitbek on degenerate and singular hyperbolic equations, and Aidyn Kassymov on fractional inequalities in metric measure spaces. Read more.
• Methusalem Colloquium lectures by Dr. Arick Shao, 14–15 April 2025. Dr. Shao, from Queen Mary University of London, presented joint research with Bolys Sabitbek on asymptotics, scattering, and regularity loss for critically weakly hyperbolic systems with singular coefficients, including applications to equations arising in relativity and cosmology. Read more.
• Global Minds in Pseudo-differential Analysis workshop, 25, 28, and 29 April 2025. Organised by Michael Ruzhansky, Duván Cardona, and Marianna Chatzakou in cooperation with ICMAM Latin America, the workshop brought together participants at Ghent University and online. Its programme also included a Forum of Women in Mathematics on 29 April. Read more.
• Microlocal Day #13, 19 May 2025. Speakers Ville Turunen, Smiljana Jakšić, Lars Becker, Sekhar Ghosh, and Pradeep Boggarapu presented topics spanning functional analysis, function spaces, discrete inequalities, nonlinear problems, and Dunkl–Hermite expansions. Read more.
• 15th ISAAC Congress, 21–25 July 2025, Astana. Our website shared access to the congress online, extending opportunities to follow its scientific programme. Online congress announcement.

International Cooperation and Research Training

• Fifteen years of collaboration with Kazakhstan. At the 15th ISAAC Congress, Prof. Michael Ruzhansky reflected on collaborations developed between 2010 and 2025. Beginning with lectures at KazNU, these partnerships grew through joint research, PhD supervision, and postdoctoral mentoring, producing results in spectral geometry, functional inequalities, analysis on groups, nonharmonic analysis, and PDEs. Read more.
• Cooperation with Brazil and Latin America. The Global Minds project announced a programme of virtual conferences scheduled for July, September, and October 2025, connecting researchers in Brazil, Central America, and the Caribbean. It also proposed an edited volume collecting contributions from the associated conferences for our Research Perspectives series. Project details.
• Sustained engagement with the African mathematical community. A December retrospective documented our longstanding teaching, supervision, and research partnerships across Africa, including connections with AIMS Ghana, the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast, and Addis Ababa University. It also reported that Linda Botchway had submitted her PhD thesis at the University of Ghana and was awaiting her defence. These collaborations reflect our continuing commitment to widening access to advanced mathematical training. Read more.
